Chapter 8: Yeti Shock Troops

Kamala decides to move out on her own rather than ask Alvaro to move into the Gandharva house. Her parents buy her a small studio size house. The next day, she and Alvaro get married and move into his parents's giant house. Alvaro's one living parent, Romon, conveniently dies that night, leaving the house to Alvaro and Kamala.

Kiran gets it into his head that he wants to throw a bonfire party. 

It's certainly a good excuse to invite Chelsea over. Of course, that's totally not what Kiran was thinking...

"Do you want to see something really cool, Kiran?"

"Sure, show me."

"Wait, that's just dirt, Chelsea..."

"I know! Watch me eat it!"

Well, after that display, it's not surprising that Kiran doesn't have any thoughts of kissing her. Whatever these two are thinking about each other, they don't express any romantic feelings.

That could be me dancing with Shelly, Suresh thinks.

It could, if you would actually take some initiative and talk to her.

It turns out Shelly is the flirty type and takes her own initiative to compliment Suresh.  But nothing more comes of it than that, as it's late and the guests start leaving.

Still not ready to pursue romance, Kiran remains obsessed with Chelsea. Today, he wants to invite her over after school.

I know you're a bookworm, but if you could just pull your head away from the tablet and actually talk to her, or at least join her in the game she's playing...

"I'm hungry, and I feel like eating at the diner. Do you want to come?" Kiran suggests.

Yes! Go somewhere where you have to pay attention her.

After a lovely dinner at what must be the worst lit lot in Lucky Palms, Chelsea surprises Kiran with a bouquet. And, hey, surprise date! Now that he's involved in one, Kiran hopes this date turns out to be great. 

You've got about an hour before curfew. Work it!

Kiran works up the courage to tell Chelsea he thinks she's pretty.

Then they go read together at a poorly lit table. *sigh*

Hey, is that Kamala's husband Alvaro behind you, talking to Tanisha Lancaster?

Alvaro! No! Stop that, you cheating bastard!

Hang your head in shame, Alvaro. IN SHAME!

Despite that drama, and the complete lack of anything happening between Kiran and Chelsea, it is a great date.

Darleen is stressing out about her wrinkles. It doesn't help that her husband still looks as young as the day they met, and won't get his first wrinkle until after she turns elder.

After the success of his bonfire party, Kiran wants to throw five parties. This party isn't one of them; Suchandra wanted to throw a birthday for Rajendra, so this one is his. Either way, Kiran gets to invite Chelsea. After he got home from his date last night, he decided he wanted to have his first kiss with  her.

Oh, look, the dirty cheating bastard is here.

Kamala is blissfully unaware of her husband's two timing ways.

You can't do this in your own house?

Kiran works his way up to that first kiss.

Celestial trumpets celebrate Kiran's first kiss. Ah, wait, that's the prom announcement. Kirn wants to go, so he asks Chelsea.

So, you guys just woohoo in your mother's bed and then take off before your brother has his cake?

"You really know how to throw a party! But I'm all partied out!"

Yeah, I'll bet.

The remaining guests who aren't all partied out gather around for Rajendra's cake.

The birthday boy ages up, right before the full moon ruins the lighting for his portrait.

The full moon does bring out Chelsea's inner neurotic. "MorcuCorp is amassing an army of Yeti shock troops. They train them over in the Area 52 base out in the desert."

Having established her reputation as slightly crazed, no one believes Chelsea when she tells them that Alvaro is stinking cheating bastard. "I saw it with my own eyes!"

Sure, Chelsea, just like the Yeti army...

Poor Shelly keeps trying to get Suresh's attention , but the King of Homework wants to make valedictorian and cannot be distracted by feminine wiles.

But as much as Suresh aspires to academic achievement, he can't let his little brother surpass him in the romance department, either. Kiran has had his first kiss, and now Suresh needs to catch up. But despite the bit of flirting he's done with Shelly Boyd, Suresh's girl of choice is Lourdes Roush. So he invites her to the house after school the next day.

Luckily for him, he was already friends with her, so taking the relationship up to the next level was pretty easy.

Snowflake Day! This gift-giving party was Kiran's idea. Darleen's sister Shelia has just aged up to a YA. The Matlapins really produced lovely daughters.

Hey, are you feeling okay Shelia?

Oh, right, we got that pop up last night, you and Stephan King had a little software failure and got married in a hurry.

There's the happy expectant father. I predict attractive spawn from this pairing.

Family and guests gather around to open the gifts.

Kiran hopes Chelsea likes what he got her.

Why would he get me a mirror? Does he think I'm vain? Or that I need to gussy up? Maybe he thinks I'm a vampire and he's trying to expose my secret...

What the...?

What kind of crappy gift is toilet paper? Suresh was expecting something more grandiose. Something that cost more than $2, and isn't for wiping your ass on, at least.

Lourdes got mistletoe. She's not over-thinking it. Suresh is still pissed about the toilet paper.

I hope you get coal, you filthy, cheating bastard.

Alvaro gets a fish bowl.

Later, it's time for prom. Chelsea and Kiran get into their formals.

Suresh never got around to asking Lourdes to prom, so he went alone, as did Rajendra, who hasn't come around to being interested in romance yet.

Kiran being crowned prom king does not sit well with Suresh at all. He could give a hundred reasons why he was the better candidate. A hundred! But the school refused to allow him to give a that speech after the announcement was made, so his hundred reasons will remain a secret forever.

Chelsea and Kiran decide to go steady while at the prom.

Saturday, the day after prom, is both Suresh and Darshan's birthday. Kiran throws a party at the bowling alley for his brothers. Not an official birthday party, just one last shindig where Suresh can be a teen before he ages up.

Kiran's inner romantic beast finally awakens. Shelly Boyd takes notes.

"I'm not really a vampire," Chelsea whispers in his ear.

Don't you want to be the king of romance, Suresh?

Suresh's inner beast is not responding tonight.

Kiran steps in to his brother's rescue. "It's his last night as a teen, He just needs a little nudge in the right direction," he says to Lourdes.

Now that he has two kisses behind him, Kiran is suddenly the master of romance.

But Lourdes takes his suggestion, and approaches Suresh, sitting off by himself reading  book.

And she gives him a memorable experience for his last night as a teen.

Shelly Boyd isn't ready to give up yet, and approaches Suresh while Lourdes is distracted by a video game.

Chelsea makes note of flirting and reports to Kiran.

"Dude, if you wanted Shelly, you should have gone for it a long time ago. But now that you're officially a romantic interest of Lourdes, you can't go flirting around without tanking your reputation."

"Who's going to care about my high school rep once I graduate?"

It all goes down on your permanent record, Suresh. But he got lucky in that his bit of flirting with Shelly went largely unnoticed. This time.

When the party is over, Suresh has his actual birthday celebration at home.

Now he's all grown up.

Darshan is starving and he really needs to pee, but even dire needs cannot stop an age up from happening. Darshan's comes while he's trying to use the toilet. Awkward.

"I appreciate the bathroom party, Suresh, but I really need to pee."

Suchandra and Darleen's youngest becomes a teen, fulfilling Darleen's lifetime wish to raise five children to teen.
